If you are just reading this, please scroll down to my recent post below..

This is original post from months ago.

Just wanted to make a quick post on whats going on.. or what is not yet, I suppose too.

PlayUO will be growing slowly over time, that is for sure. I have intentions of adding a chat system in one way or another, either integrated or otherwise. Still looking at options there.

Our JustUO server will be soon released. Ravenwolfe had done a lot of good stuff over the last few months and I know you will all love what is in store with that, as well as a little extra feature that you would never expect ;)

I intend to create a nice Credits page asap to really thank the RunUO developers such as Krrios, Zippy, Mark and Ryan (and the rest!). These guys were really what made all of this possible. The ServUO team is also a big name on the list, for all the work they have done.

We are very much considering a shard listing system as well, but whatever that will become, I want it to be something different than what is already out there. I want it to be done in a way that can remove as much as possible, the cheating by voting. (UO Portal now replaces that notion)

I may create some sort of random rotating banner feature on the site somewhere for shard owners to submit banners, and further the advertising of shards on this site. I just do not want it to be too flashy and distracting.

I will also be posting many of the world building programs that you would have normally found on and have already begun sorting them. I am trying to organize them with documentation as best I can. These will be authentic packages with no second or third hands so you will know they are unmodified.
Of course I will see about the newer more current programs as well, with the owners permissions.

We are slowly working on the world building section in general, and will be growing the submissions of addons and other types of buildings and deco files to share with everyone, and hopefully some of you will also get interested in this, and submit your own addons, buildings and deco as well. I have submitted a nice item exporting system just for this purpose!

Much more are in the ideas stage as well, however I also do have our shard that I must keep time for development work as well, and that is most the reason why things are not happening right away, or slower than I would like.

So thats some of the things that are in store for the PlayUO site here. We welcome you in joining us, and helping us grow this place into the next generation RunUO/Ryandor hybrid site :)

    Thanks everyone!

Your work here is outstanding, I never dreamt I would find a site I enjoy browsing as much as yours. I had originally intended to do a site dedicated to preserving what was left on the web of all things Ultima Online ( Tools, Tutorials, Art, Sounds, etc.) It seems though that my work, personal life, and sometimes even fate itself kept me from doing it. I still have a ton of things that might possibly be the only surviving copies. I'll document them to the best of my ability and post them up as soon as I can.

Man, I'm glad to have found this. I was looking at starting up a UO server again, and have been cruising through my old stomping grounds. Have found your site here through that process. I'll take a look at PlayUO to see how it operates versus RunUO, Sphere, etc.

Thanks for all the hard work you devs put into this stuff!

Careful guys, we've a ronin on the site...

    but seriously, love Auron

A ronin? In what sort of reference you bringing that up? The fact that I have been going through some RunUO forums to find this? I have used various emulators since about 2001. It has been years since I have last looked at UO. Got that urge to check out anything out there that is current and allows me to play on a UO server and configure it how I wish. Whether it is RunUO, POL, UOX3, etc.

    Anyways, clarify the term "ronin".

Auron, the character, is a Ronin

LMAO! Okay, I thought something completely different. Why I didn't pick that up was probably because I've been having a rough day at work here. Auron is one of my favorite FF characters. :D

    Hey guys,
I wanted to somewhat resurrect this post rather than create a new one just yet. Quite a bit has changed since PlayUO launched and I wanted to get your all's take on things as they stand.

As you all know (those that have been within the community long enough) progress and development is always an up and down area. We all do this in our spare time, and spare time is always unpredictable. The JustUO project has been doing terrific in my opinion, and we are creeping up on another version release soon. I want to just give a hand to everyone contributing to the JustUO project, you guys are terrific :)

What am I on about? Well, again, I want to get your take on the site, its current state, and where to go next. Sure, it could use a little clean up as far as the overall forum topic categories maybe.. but what else would you like to see or have here?
There have been several people that have brought up the Wiki idea.. and I can see that, but for some reason I have just been hesitant. In my opinion they are kind of ugly, and finding a good one that would integrate properly with the site and theme here is another challenge.

There is an idea of integrating the UOPortal site within the PlayUO site completely as well, rather than having two separate sites with separate registration's. So there is that possibility.

I have had the thought of adding a blog plugin too.. but not real sure how very much that would be used or if even cared for.

So again, I would love to hear your ideas on what we could do to make PlayUO even better.. Lets hear it :)

    The floor is open!

I would love to see a better way of reporting and tracking bugs.

using the forum posts are good but it would be nice if we had something more defined, much like the Resources are would be awesome.

For sure.. Any thoughts or suggestions there?
I had the idea of using Visual Studio's Team Foundation.. it can become quite expensive though. I will look into that a bit more. Its wonderful really, with assigning tasks and tracking individual assignments, notes and everything else.
The use of GitHub's bug report and tracking has been also recommended, but the only down side to it is that it is separate from the site here. Id really like to have things kept in one area rather than scattered around in various places with multiple registrations required.

agreed there, but something as simple as having your developers monitor the bugs to assign the fixes, have version #'s for reports, descriptions, steps to reproduce separated out of description, things like that.

Dian, I would recommend using JIRA. Very easy to track / create issues of importance, comment, link to the scripts, everything. It's so much easier to track every bug rather than write them down, search through forums, etc. Easy nice to do list. Developers can just check it out, see what issues are undone, see whos working on ones currently, etc.

Also, I'd recommend JustUO taking some time out to find their "path".

Some would consider being up to date on the most recent updates from EA UO,
I would recommend fine tuning every core script for max performance.

You'll get more followers with a superior product rather than a whole bunch of stuff.

I'm not saying its not good already, but there's always room to make everything more efficient.

We use Pivotal for such stuff, by suggestion of a pro projectmanager who use this on a daily base.

I'd have to agree, playing "keep up" ends up creating "fluff" and not enough "stuff"

IMO Pub. 4 did a lot to help that.

I'm still a supporter for a Wiki or something similar.
They may not look nice, but it's a heck of a lot easier to store, sort, and locate information for common and uncommon edits. Otherwise they tend to get burried in script support threads and nearly impossible to search for.
